Design Presence: LinkedIn & Upgraded Cargo

Linkedin is a great to get involved with like minded creatives. Here is mine at the moment:

I've designed the business cards, but haven't put the updated url on cargo as of yet. Here is proof that I have upgraded the site:

Business Card Production

I thought I would put my embossing stamp to good use and develop some business cards. My old ones are outdated, as well as looking a little cheap. I printed out a simple, minimal layout of my name, profession and contact details on a range of coloured stock. I think it would be good to have a range as it allows people to pick out the colours they prefer, it adds a little personal touch to something as uniform as a business card.

I triplexed the business card with white card and another layer of coloured stock, but this time plain. It allowed me to experiment with my embossing stamp in terms of placement and which sides.

Experimenting with multi-coloured business cards. This one is orange on the back, so I will have an orange variant with both red and blue. It adds a little interest and is something that is easy to do manufacturing myself, but could be expensive if sent to a printers.

Before and after embossing. I decided to opt for the bottom left of the plain side, as it looks more structured on the other side. Although I tested a business card that was embossed on one side, then flat on the other, I like the effect my stamp gives off on the reverse. It fills in the space nicely and I haven't really seen it done like this very much. It'd be good to have a business card that promotes as much interest as possible.

Design Context Responses

It's taken a while for me to blog this, but it's important for my progress in my design context publication so I need to put it on here.

After my studio visit on the 3rd I proposed a few questions for the guys at Catalogue and Jay Cover. Here are the responses that I have got:

Studio Visit With Catalogue

So I visited 30-34 Aire Street once again to visit Catalogue this time. I showed them my portfolio and had a chat about graduation and what to expect. They advised me to work hard to get the best out of my FMP and the end of year show. The things that were lacking in my portfolio was the range but they said it looked nice aesthetically.

BONUS: Got to speak to Jay Cover, a talented illustrator that shares the studio with Tom & Ollie. He had his input in my work and took an hour away to get involved which was really good of him.

I gave them a screen print each from my typeface specimen posters as a little thank you, and aim to send them through some questions for my design context later on.

Planning of the boards, making sure I get the most content out of it.

Follow Up Emails to Catalogue... I guess they're still not home

I followed up the email I sent last week to them, and I got a placeholder email letting me know that they're still there:

Contacting Catalogue & Some Problems

After contacting Catalogue through the buzzer I followed it up with a few emails. I hope I approached it in the right way, it's just a matter of sorting out a convenient meeting time:
