I decided to go to the two talks held today. The entrepreneur talk isn't really tailored to me as I don't really want to be setting up my own studio.
I was a little sceptical at first as I have so much going on in the FMP. However, I'm very glad I went. It was more of a refresher course of the PPD module of the second year, but it's good to revise old topics and I also learnt other techniques for networking and approaching people for work. Such as:
- Inviting them for coffee. It doesn't have to be in the studio, and you can follow on by asking them if it would be possible to visit them in the studio at some point.
- Events are fantastic for networking as people are geared to be approachable, and to be approached.
- Research funding areas and pick out where the jobs may lie from this. For example, if there is funding into theatre & film, there will be more promotional opportunities and therefore more places to fill.
- Job-hunting is a full-time job in itself. Be dedicated, be persistent and be resilient.
- Be dignified in social networking. An angry tweet may be one to regret in the future.
Here are the notes that I took throughout both sessions, and the handouts that I have gained from it. All in all, a brilliant use of 6 hours.
